Mission and Vision

The Santa Monica Black Lives Association, (SMBLA) is a multi-service,
community-based agency established to address the impact of systemic racism in the
area’s health, wellness, education, housing and business as it relates to the African
American community in Santa Monica. SMBLA will assist all residents and employees
in the City of Santa Monica in addressing the impact of systemic racism (trauma,
discrimination, isolation and alienation), reduce the disparities and barriers to culturally
appropriate resources, reverse the stigma regarding help-seeking, and build healthy
coping strategies. SMBLA will offer direct and indirect services designed to improve the
quality of life, personal resilience and spiritual foundation of African American residents
of Santa Monica.
